What we learned from a thousand weekly reports

Patterns from the recurring reports teams automate most, and the small changes that made them more useful.

Illustration of a rising weekly bar chart

Recurring reports are the most common first task teams hand over. Looking across many of them, a few patterns separate reports people read from reports people skim.

Lead with what changed

The most useful reports open with the two or three numbers that moved, not a full table. Detail is still there for anyone who wants it, one click away.

Explain the why

A short note on the likely cause of a change, such as a launch, a pricing update or a seasonal dip, turns a status update into something a team can act on.

Ask a question at the end

Reports that close with a suggested next step, like “Should I dig into the drop in trial signups?”, get replies. That reply often becomes the next task.
